At Powell’s Books! Maeve DuVally in conversation with DEI advocate Jeana Hooker
Maeve Rising: Coming Out Trans in Corporate America by Maeve DuVally
When Maeve came out as transgender at Goldman Sachs in New York City she knew she couldn’t do it quietly. As a manager of public relations for Goldman Sachs, she was a public face of the company. Initially she keeps her identity a secret with wardrobe changes in the lobby bathroom after work. When she finally declares herself, Goldman Sachs–to her surprise–embraces her. A New York Times story follows, leading Maeve to a new life as a role model for other transgender people and giving her a sense of purpose that had been lacking her entire life. All across America, transgender people meet obstacles in being themselves in the workplace. Joining Maeve for a conversation is Portland businesswoman and DEI advocate Jeana Hooker whose career is dedicated to fostering systemic change and helping to create a culture of equity and belonging in organizations. She’s a Senior Diversity & Inclusion Partner at Vizient Inc and Board Vice President of Oregon Pride in Business.
