From October 7 to October 20, Author Julia Park Tracey will be on the road in New York. You can join her in person or via her live streams in this exciting tour capturing the settings of the historical novel The Bereaved while she shares information about 1859 New York and the little known aspects of the Orphan Train. Starting in the New York City on Saturday, October 7, she and Ephemeral New York founder and author Esther Crane will take readers on a walking tour through Kip’s Bay where Martha, the main character of this historical novel fled with her family. Julia will hop the train at Grand Central Station, stopping in Orphan Train ports of call from Newbergh to Albany to Buffalo, before making her way to Concordia, Kansas for a talk at The Orphan Train Complex where she first discovered her great great grandfather was a child rider. Julia will give talks at the Newburgh Free Library in partnership with the Newburgh Historical Society, and then at the historic Ten Broeck Mansion in Albany, and also visit the Saratoga Book Festival where she is a speaker. She’ll be creating live stream events from Grand Central Station to the military statues of Lockport. She’ll be in Buffalo for a talk at the Buffalo Free Library in partnership with Talking Leaves Books. She’ll track the home of her great great grandfather’s adoptive home in Oberlin, Ohio before heading to Concordia, Kansas for the talk at the Orphan Train Complex and Museum on Friday, October 20.
