Retracing the Orphan Train Event: Kip’s Bay Walking Tour

Kip’s Bay Walking Tour in New York City: Saturday, October 7, 1 to 2:30 pm. Meet at the Home for the Friendless (29 E. 29th Street) at 12:45. Two authors will lead the tour: Julia Park Tracey with the newly released historical novel The Bereaved (Sibylline Press) and Ester Crain with her book, The Gilded Age in New York (Black Dog & Leventhal). Ester is also the woman behind Ephemeral New York, a website that chronicles the city’s past. Julia will share the 1859 landmarks from the book The Bereaved. Two complimentary tickets to the Tenement Museum will be given away!

The Bereaved story in Kip’s Bay, New York City: Martha Lozier and her children would have arrived by ferry after fleeing their home in Newburgh. They lived in a tenement at Third Avenue at E 26th Her church was the Marble Collegiate Church (Dutch Reformed [Protestant]) at 1 W 29th Street at Fifth Ave. The Home for the Friendless was located at 32 E. 29th St.
