Retracing the Orphan Train: Side Trip to Niagara Falls with Live Stream
Peek over the edge into Niagara Falls with Julia Park Tracey in this Live Stream Instagram event @juliaparktracey on Tuesday, October 17 at noon and later 4 pm in Lockport.
The Bereaved in Niagara Falls: One of the wonders of the world, is where young William (Homer) Lozier Gaston took his bride, Winifred, on their honeymoon. Though this was not a stop on the Orphan Train route, this is where author Julia Park Tracey may (or may not) have the courage to look over the edge and muse on how she came to discover the mystery of her great great grandfather’s origins.
The Bereaved story in Lockport: The Orphan Train passed through Lockport, leaving Ira and others there to serve as farm labor. Lockport is also where he met his future wife, Irish immigrant and hotel maid Mary Gaffrey. Ira also enlisted in Lockport, and eventually went to almost every major battle in the war. He eventually settled into the 1st New York Light Artillery, Battery M, under Colonel Cothran. Lockport is better known for the Erie Canal and its locks.
