Margaret Eastman Smith Launches A SPECTACULAR INHERITANCE at Dennis Memorial Library in Dennis, MA
Join Margaret Eastman Smith for the official launch of her memoir A Spectacular Inheritance: What I Kept and What I Left Behind, and memoir of growing up in the international peacebuilding movement Moral Re-Armament. The controversial movement, which spawned both Alcoholics Anonymous and Up With People, is credited with contributing to postwar Franco-German reconciliation and to other reconciliation efforts. Amid memories of her unusual life in the community and her evolving view of it, she winds her own story of finding values that she can rely on and finding a path as a college professor of international peacemaking.
“A compelling read, particularly for anyone who’s grown up in and then left a religious movement” – Kirkus Reviews
“. . . groundbreaking . . . she avoids both the anger of being a victim and the uncritical acceptance characteristic of accounts by the second and third generation.” – Marguerite Van Die, author of An Evangelical Mind
“…eschews sensationalism and seeks to understand rather than to judge. It is a testament to the perennial search for a balance between self-determination and deep connection.” – Daniel P. McKanan, director of Harvard Divinity School’s Program for the Evolution of Spirituality
