SUMMARY:Leisha Douglas discusses her novel Triple Threat at Sparkle Books in New York
DESCRIPTION:Reclamation through Fiction: Upon her mother’s death, Leisha Douglas inherited a box of scrapbooks bursting with yellowed press releases, newspaper articles, and fan letters about her grandmother’s life on stage; a life of stardom never discussed by Leisha’s family. This treasure trove, combined with extensive research, forms the basis of Leisha’s historical fiction novel, Triple Threat: The Story of a 1920s Broadway Star, which she will discuss and read from in this one-hour event.\nThe Sparkle Bookstore, 642 Main St., Sparkill, N.Y. 10976\nRSVP HERE: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reclamation-through-fiction-with-leisha-douglas-tickets-1992562016630 ( https://www.eventbrite.com/e/reclamation-through-fiction-with-leisha-douglas-tickets-1992562016630 )\n\n ABOUT THE BOOK\nTriple Threat is the story of a 1920s Broadway star Elizabeth Hines had a meteoric rise to stardom in the 1920s becoming George M. Cohan’s leading lady in several of his most iconic musical comedies, including his longest-running Broadway production, Little Nellie Kelly. This fictionalized biography, written by her granddaughter, follows Elizabeth’s trajectory from adolescent ingenue to world- renowned star. As she travels to Africa and Europe performing abroad, and hobnobs with key figures of the 1920s. the world starts to change and pressures mount. How is it that she retains her integrity, transcending both family and society’s expectations in her international acting career.\n“Fiction and fact blend seamlessly in this imagined life of a talented and beautiful woman determined from an early age to be in the world of musical theatre on her own terms.”\n—Deborah Batterman, author of Just Like February\n“The authenticity of the era (1913-1928) is beautifully captured in the rich detail of Leisha Douglas’s concise, lucid prose.”\n—Kevin Pilkington, author of Taking On Secrets \n \nABOUT THE AUTHOR\nLeisha Douglas’s stories and poems have been published in literary journals, including The Cortland Review, Helix, The Minetta Review, The Midwest Quarterly, Upstreet, The RavensPerch, and The Big Other, as well as anthologized and nominated for a Pushcart Prize.
