SUMMARY:Local Author Julia Park Tracey at Publication Party in Grass Valley August 8, 2023
DESCRIPTION:\nReaders are invited to attend the publication party for author Julia Park Tracey’s newest novel, The Bereaved, on August 8, 2023 from 6 to 8 pm at UUCM (Unitarian Universalist Community of the Mountains). The Bookseller in Grass Valley will be on hand to sell books at the event.  Park Tracey will give a short reading followed by a book signing. Light Victorian-themed refreshments will be served.\nA historical fiction, The Bereaved is the story of a destitute widow who leaves her children with an aid society on the eve of the Civil War, and finds that the society has sent her four children out on the Orphan Train. She must pursue them through three states to gather her children home again. The story is based on the true story of her great-grandfather and his siblings, who were all Orphan Train children, and her several years of research and writing.\nPark Tracey, born in California, has worked as a journalist, editor, and publisher for decades in the Bay Area. She left full-time news coverage for freelance magazine work in 2010. She is the author of six books, including two women’s history, three novels and a collection of poetry, all available at bookstores or online.\nTracey is a seasoned and award-winning journalist, who has helmed glossy city magazines (Oakland, Alameda) and music, literary, and regional alt-news tabloids as well as the book publishing imprint of Stellar Media Group. She’s also a social media maven, conducting training and audits for groups such as the Northern California Independent Booksellers Association and the Women’s National Book Association. Park Tracey is well known in Alameda for founding the Alameda Sun newspaper and is currently on the advisory board of the Alameda Post. A former longtime resident of Sonoma County as well as the East Bay, Park Tracey is currently living in Grass Valley, CA. She has written for The Union and the online news magazine The 530.\nNote: Street parking is available at the event.\nSibylline Press was formed to publish the brilliant works of women authors over the age of 50. In this first year of publishing, categories include memoir, narrative nonfiction, and fiction. The company was started in August 2022 during a conversation about the lack of opportunity for women writers over 50. Sibylline Press gets its name from the ancient Sibyls, elder women who produced oracular utterances containing wisdom captured in scrolls that Roman leaders often consulted to rule.\n
